As Owners of WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham we have two beautiful resorts to choose from in Far North Queensland.
The cooler weather is creeping in as summer begins to fade away – now is the perfect time to lock in your winter escape and chase the sun! With around 300 days of sunshine a year, far North Queensland is your spot.
Here are my top tips to help you plan your tropical escape and beat the winter blues.
A vibrant and modern city that is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and more, Cairns is a great base to explore the wonderful attractions tropical North Queensland has to offer.
Whether you are looking for a relaxing break, a thrilling adventure or a mix of both a stay in this stunning area of at least 3 – 4 nights is a must.
Great Barrier Reef
Take a day cruise to one of the many islands, some of which offer glass bottom rides.
Swim amongst colourful gardens of coral, snorkel with turtles or take a dive off the back of a boat to the deep. Whatever your interests, the Great Barrier Reef is a once in lifetime must do.
Cairns Esplanade Boardwalk
The Cairns Esplanade is a picturesque 2.5km stretch of foreshore in the heart of Cairns. The parklands, playgrounds, boardwalk, Lagoon pool and recreational facilities are all free entry.
After dark choose from one of the many lively bars and restaurants for dinner, watch a local cultural show and stroll through the night markets which operate daily from 5:00pm – 11:00pm.
Just 30 minutes’ drive from Cairns, Kuranda Village is a colourful and quirky village with a quaint main street that is lined with galleries and shops and daily markets.
Alternatively, spend the day experiencing one of the most unique rail journeys in Australia. Take the train from Cairns station to Kuranda and whilst there be sure to take part in the world’s most beautiful rainforest experiences. The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway experience.
Where To Stay?
Lucky for us as Owners we can return to our spacious, fully self-contained, 2 or 3 bedroom apartment at the WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham Cairns resort.
Located in the area of White Rock this beautiful resort is just a 10 minute drive from the heart of Cairns. A hire car is recommended.
Take one of Australia’s most scenic coastal roads with rainforest on one side and the Great Barrier Reef on the other to Port Douglas. About a 1 hour drive north of Cairns.
Along the way stop by Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures which is just 25 minutes south of Port Douglas. With over 2100 metres of timber boardwalks it really is a fantastic way to see an array of wildlife. Have lunch at the restaurant overlooking the lagoon and take a boat cruise to see crocodiles interacting just as they would in the wild!
Once in Port Douglas enjoy the slower pace, balmy days, tropical nights and simply relax in this picturesque seaside village.
A short 15 minute drive north of Port Douglas will take you to Mossman and just 5 minutes west of town is where you will find beautiful Mossman Gorge. Take a guided indigenous rainforest tour, swim in the refreshing waters or simply explore at your own pace on many of the walking tracks throughout.
Daintree Rainforest Tours
The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest living rainforest on earth. It is the only place in the world where two World Heritage-listed sites meet, the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.
Day trips are available from Port Douglas which of course has the benefit of a knowledge and experienced driver and guide. If driving yourself, take some time to plan an itinerary as there is much to see and do.
