Over 10 years ago I packed my little car full of clothes, Knick knacks and all my worldly possessions to set off on an adventure on the “Mainland”. I boarded the boat from Tasmania to Melbourne with my best friend and we then drove for hours on end, over hundreds of kilometers, singing and dancing all the way until we reached our destination – the fun and exciting Gold Coast.
Little did I know that this vibrant city by the beach would become my permanent home and could offer so much more than theme parks, and nightclubs.
As a “local”, I like to help my family plan their things to do when they come to visit me from Tasmania.
Here are some of my favourite things to do that you might like to enjoy on your next Gold Coast getaway.
Theme Parks & Shows
The better part of a week could definitely be spent enjoying the 5 theme parks on the coast with something for everyone.
Your evenings could be enjoyed at Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant for dinner and a show, Australian Outback Spectacular for a journey through the High Country or perhaps with a visit to Jupiters Casino in Broadbeach to catch a show and have dinner at one of over 5 restaurants.
Gold Coast Hinterland
Discover the green behind the gold. Jump in a car and within just half an hour you’re in the middle of the Gold Coast hinterland. Visit vineyards, sample local produce and browse the many local arts and crafts in Mount Tamborine. Be sure to change from your sandals and take a walk through Lamington or Springbrook National Parks.
My Favourite place is O’Reillys Canungra Valley Vineyard. Open 7 days a week.
Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets are every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday night. Carrara Markets are open every Saturday and Sunday just 10 minutes’ drive from Surfers Paradise and are Australia’s biggest permanent markets. Coolangatta Art and Craft Markets offer a great day out on the second Sunday of every month. Only 5 minutes from Wyndham Kirra Beach.
Laze on the beautiful beaches, enjoy some Putt Putt fun, visit Ripley’s Believe It or Not! In Cavill mall and challenge your senses at the Infinity attraction. Be sure to take it all in from the SkyPoint Observation deck located on top of the Q1 building.
Restaurants and cafes
From fine-dining restaurants, relaxed beachside cafes and Surf Clubs to funky bars and budget-priced eateries there is an abundance of choice on the Gold Coast. Explore the areas of Main Beach, Broadbeach, Nobby’s Beach, Burleigh Heads and the Hinterland to Coolangatta to find a taste to suit your style.
Enjoy The Waterways
Whale watching on the Gold Coast is like in no other place. Only 10 minutes off the coast you will be in the middle of the “Humpback Highway”. With several tour operators to choose from the best time of year is from June to November.
If it’s adrenalin you seek then Jet Boating may be more your speed. Again with several operators offering high speed drifting and other exciting manoeuvers it’s full on fun mixed with wonderful scenery and sightseeing.
Explore the Gold Coast by land and water without leaving your seat. Start and return from the heart of Surfers Paradise and take in spectacular views of beaches, luxury home and terrific views from the broadwater.
For a unique experience on the Gold Coast enjoy a day trip sailing onboard a luxury high speed catamaran for an island adventure to McLaren’s Landing at South Stradbroke Island. Once on the island play volleyball, go kayaking, jet skiing, sand tobogganing, parasailing or enjoy a tropical BBQ lunch and simply relax.
Where To Stay
Owners in the WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham have three resorts on the Gold Coast to choose from. All are very popular resorts and are in fantastic locations.
In the heart of Surfers Paradise adjacent to the Q1 building, only 2 block from the beach, and 600 metres from Cavill Avenue, Wyndham Surfers Paradise is a modern, family friendly hotel located in a prime position.
The hotel has 1 and 2 bedroom fully self-contained apartments that are spacious and stylish all with large balconies.
With a trendy lobby lounge that has a café and wine bar, BBQ area, pool, gym, sauna and spa, Wyndham Surfers Paradise is a fantastic choice for your Gold Coast visit.
Located in an excellent position just 100 metres from Surfers Paradise Beach and 600 metres from Cavill Avenue, Wyndham Crown Towers offers spacious one bedroom, fully self-contained apartments.
The hotel includes a lagoon pool complete with pirate ship and waterslide, indoor heated pool, spa, sauna and gym.
There is also an onsite Thai restaurant and day spa to end your day after enjoying the many Gold Coast attractions.
Located on the southern end of the Gold Coast, Wyndham Kirra Beach is arguably one of the Clubs most popular resort choices for Owners.
Kirra Beach is one of the Gold Coast’s best-kept secrets as it is close enough to explore the action by day and far enough to escape the hustle and bustle by night.
Less than 100 metres from Kirra Beach the resort has one, two and three bedroom, fully self-contained apartments, many with ocean or hinterland views.
With the beach across the road, onsite pool, spa, gym, sauna and mini golf, a children’s playground, BBQ area and bike hire, this resort is fantastic for singles, couples and families with something for everyone.
Eve Taylor is the Owner Education Team Leader at WorldMark South Pacific Club and she loved the Club so much, she became an Owner in 2012. In her spare time, Eve relaxes on the beach with her partner Mat and their Samoyed pup Jeff. Eve is always busy dreaming about or planning their next holiday because “I love visiting as many WorldMark resorts as possible and draw on these experiences to motivate Owners to do the same.”
