We Left A Piece Of Our Heart In Wanaka . . .

Candy and Nick visited Wanaka and shared their beautiful story and pictures with us.  Once you read it, you’ll have Wanaka at the top of your holiday bucket list!

‘We left a piece of our heart in Wanaka, and each time we go back, we leave a little bit more. And if it wasn’t for Whydham, we might never have discovered this incredible area where words simply fall short; you try, but the closest you get is WOW!

Armed with bookings (and hidden local secrets) from the ever-helpful staff at Wyndam, our family holiday took us through awe-inspiring mountains, rugged Tolkien-esque landscapes, pristine rivers and memories destined to last a lifetime. Summer meant swimming in the lake, picnicking, mountain biking, hiking, jet-boating, helicopter rides, scenic flights to Milford Sound, world-class shopping, scenic cruises, and day trips to Queenstown and all the thrills that she offers.

Basing ourselves at Wyndham Resort Wanaka made our 10 days of family exploring so easy and enjoyable. Fully equipped rooms finished to a very high standard saved us a fortune by allowing us to cook our own food. Seriously, they’ve thought of everything here – bbq area, pool and spa, close-but-not-too-close to shops, drying room for skis, even the windows are double-glazed!

Wanaka’s a year-round destination, easily accessible and full of surprises. We can’t wait to go back and carve up the THREE ski fields within 30 minutes drive of Wyndham  Resort Wanaka.’

The shore around Lake Wanaka is made from glacial stones that sparkle in the sun. Tom Kitten claimed the best view on the whole lake!

On our way to the Mount Aspiring National Park, we could almost hear the thunder of hooves as Orcs and Giant clashed with Men and Hobbits.

The blue of Lake Pukaki is surreal - a bluer blue than the bluest sky. And rising centre stage above it all is Aoraki / Mount Cook, or as we call it, the Ice Cream Mountain.

How's this for an airport? Those mountains rise nearly 2 kms straight up on either side, and as the plane took a slow arc back to the runway, we could almost reach out and touch them. A terrific way to start off one of the Must Dos of any proper South Island adventure - Milford Sound.
